The FA takes the welfare of children seriously and checks are required to ensure that those who work or volunteer with children are suitable to do so. The FA requires those working with children and young people to complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Once the application has been made, your documents verified and the payment made, the check goes to the police for various checks. DBS will issue the certificate when the checks are completed. The FA will be advised whether the check is clear or there are any entries on it.

If there are entries on the check, the FA will contact the applicant to ask them to send the certificate to them so that a decision can be made about suitability to work with children in football.

The DBS check needs to be renewed every three years.
