Notice of Approach - Regulations

Modified on Mon, 4 Sep, 2023 at 3:36 PM

If a Club intends to register a player currently registered with another Club playing football on the same day of the week, they are required to provide the other Club with at least seven days notice of their intention to register the player (a "Notice of Approach").

The Notice of Approach is not completed from within The FA's player registration platforms but can be done through an email or an instant message. Proof of the approach should be retained in the event that a league or county FA need to investigate the grounds of the approach.

The approaching Club can only submit the registration to their League seven days after the notice of approach unless it has been waived by the Club holding the player's registration. The registration must be submitted within 28 days of the Notice of Approach or it will expire.

If a registered player proactively contacts another Club playing on the same day of the week, that Club must still serve the Notice of Approach on the Player's current Club.

Additional Restrictions

An approaching Club:

  • must not approach the same player more than once per season
  • must not approach more than one player at the same Club at the same time
  • must wait 28 days before contacting another player at the same Club
