Priority of Competition

Many Teams will compete in multiple Competitions each season. Unfortunately, over the course of a season fixture backlogs can occur as weekends get lost due to poor weather and rescheduled or replayed fixtures.

This can lead to conflict among Clubs, Leagues and Competitions over which games take precedence.

The following order of precedence is in effect across the National League System, Women’s Pyramid and grassroots game:

Men’s Football

Women’s Football

FA Competitions

FA Competitions

National League

Tier 1 – 4 Leagues

Step 2 – 4 Leagues (weekend fixtures)

Women’s Senior County Cup

County FA Senior Cup and/or Senior Trophy

Tier 5 – 6 Leagues

Step 2 – 4 Leagues (midweek fixtures)

All other Women’s County Cups

Step 5 – 6 Leagues (weekend fixtures)

Tier 7 Leagues

All other County Cups

Standalone Qualifying Cup Competitions

(including Invitational and Charity Cups)

Step 5 – 6 Leagues (midweek fixtures)

Non-NLS Leagues

Standalone Cup Competitions

(including Invitational and Charity Cups)

Where a Club’s First Team has a home fixture, this takes priority over a Reserve Team home fixture (and so forth).

Where a Club has multiple Teams in a single Competition, they must compete their fixtures in the following order of precedence: First Team, Reserve Team, “A” Team.
